Water depth: chest deep (minimum)

Using hands and legs to support body weight in water

SUGGESTED STEPS & TEACHING POINTS

Step 1 – Hand action standing

  • Bend arm at elbow
  • Flat, relaxed hands
  • Move hands out – thumbs down
  • Move hands in – thumbs up
  • Small movements

Step 2 – Sculling for support (chest deep)

  • Repeat above
  • Scull for support
  • Submerge shoulders
  • Lift feet from bottom

Step 3 – Combine with leg action – (just able to stand)

  • Scull for support
  • Kick legs alternately

MUST SEE:

  • Effective kick
  • Arm recovery clear of the water
  • Face in the water, exhaling
